Hark, the Brand-new Dawn of Peace

Hark, the Brand-new Dawn of Peace

Hark, the brand-new dawn of peace.
May all wars and violence cease.
“Peace on earth,” the Grannies say.
“Usher in a bright new day.”
Hope and joy, may they abound
In the whole wide world around.
Hark, the brand-new dawn of peace
When all wars and violence cease.

Please feel free to add or amend.

Peace.

Granny Marge

Holiday Songs

We had a fun practice at Rachael’s tonight! Granny Cyndi provided us with lyrics from the Raging Grannies without Borders website located at

http://www.geocities.com/raginggranni/HolidaySongs.html

I am having a terrible time with my laptop, so the way I can keep this short is to refer you to the Holiday song document located here:

http://homeofficesite.com/docs/holidaysongs.doc

Here is another song we practiced, and then I’m stopping before I throw this computer against the wall:

LET THE WHOLE WORLD SING
(tune: I Want the Whole Wide World to Sing)

I want to hear the whole world sing
In perfect harmony,
To hear the song of birds, not guns,
Let music set us free.
Free to love and give up hate,
Embrace all humankind.
Let’s start today with songs of peace,
Let them fill our minds.

Let’s start a revolution,
Of song and love and light,
Let every person on the earth
Lift voices clear and bright.
Let’s end the killing and the wars,
And let our songs take flight.
We’ll make a peaceful world where all
Live without war and fright.

Songs for Lesbopalooza

Hey, this is happening Saturday at noon. We will meet at 11:45 for a quick practice inside the central entry at Collins-LLC. 10th and Woodlawn – SW corner.

Tune: When the Saints go Marching In

When everyone has equal rights
When everyone has equal rights
Oh how I want to be in that number
When everyone has equal rights

When health care is a right for all……

When we make peace instead of war……

When taxes go for schools not jails…..

When corporate rule is history……

When gays are free to live their lives…….

When old growth trees, are left to stand…..

Some Songs for Obama

Granny Shirly from the e-vine contributed this:

Obama, We Don’t Need the War
(Tune: “It Ain’t Necessarily So”)
Lyrics by Shirley Littman of the NYC Metro Raging Grannies

Obama, we don’t need the war.
We don’t want the war anymore.
We told our last leader,
But he was a cheater :
“We don’t want the war anymore.”

Obama, get out of Iraq.
Get out and don’t ever go back!
We’re glad you’re elected ,
And now you’re expected,
To pull out the troops from Iraq.

Obama we send you this song,
It’s not that you’ll never go wrong.
But we must remind you,
That we stand behind you,
Just pull out where we don’t belong!

Granny Nora added:

Kudos to Shirley for coming up with this right on time! It occurred to me that we also need to address the Afghanistan issue, since Obama has repeatedly said he believes that we need to redouble our efforts there, to “catch” Osama bin Laden. So here is another verse to the same song:

More fighting in Afghanistan
Is part of the same lousy plan
Civilians are dying
In this war you’re buying
Obama, we need a new plan

Here come the Brides

Here Come the Brides

(Tune: “Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin”)
Here come the Brides,

Here come the Grooms,

What does it matter,

Who marries whom???

Why should you care?

Life should be fair

And people should marry

Whomever they choose.

Gays will stand tall

When love conquers all,

And rights will be equal

For one and for all.
